Florida with the Fujifilm X100s

Fujifilm X100s

The Fujifilm X1000s is a fantastic camera in good light. Many sensors use a low-pass filter to counter moiré, a wavy pattern that appears when repetitive detail exceeds the resolution of the sensor. A side effect of this filter is a loss in sharpness. As the design of the Fujifilm X100s does not incorporate such a filter, images are very sharp.

The sensor also has a unique colour filter arrangement instead of the regular Bayer pattern found in most traditional sensors. This poses some challenges for RAW editing software, but Phase One’s editing program Capture One has been optimised to deal with this.

There is a range of great vintage style presets available from a company called c1styles that I used for these pictures. They work great with the Fujifilm X100s’ RAW files if you feel like getting creative with your images.

Florida is is often called ‘God’s waiting room’ because of the high number of retirees moving to the sunshine state for its year round moderate climate.  I can’t blame them, the sunsets are beautiful, the landscapes in the Everglades are often breathtaking and the city of Miami Beach looks like a movie set. I’d love to retire there too!

I did a full review on the Fujifilm X100s some time ago; you can find it here.
