Sony A7s at the Holi Festival of Colours

Introduction

Everybody seems to be loving their new Sony A7s camera. Besides the fantastic ISO performance that is usable up to a staggering ISO 51200, it has been hailed for its great colours. The larger pixels seem to capture the tone very well in daylight, rendering entirely neutral and realistic images.

I went to the Holi Festival of Colours last weekend; this music festival originates in India where it is an important festival of Hindus. It is celebrated at the end of the winter season on the last full moon day of the lunar month (February/March). People spray others with coloured powder and other creative means to colour their targets. The concept has been ported over to the Western world, a bit of a franchise thing, but the primary celebration of life and fun idea is still there.

Equipment used

I thought it would be a great way to check that much talked about colour rendition of the Sony A7s. I took my SAL70300G (with the LAEA4) in order to get some more reach, but was a bit disappointed. I’m used to the SEL70200G now that is tad sharp even at 200mm, and the 70300G does compare really. But I still got some decent pics!

Thank you for the nice show! It’s a case when the weather was cooperative to take nice and funny portraits.

Indeed Vladimir, I got lucky there! I should mention no noise reduction was applied on any pictures this time.
