Introduction

The Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Lens is designed for use with Panasonic  and Olympus Micro 4/3 cameras. Angle of view compared to a full-frame digital camera equals 50mm, and the very fast f/1.4 maximum aperture can deliver beautiful, bright photos even in low light. Built to Leica’s usual high standards, this lens provides excellent image quality with minimal distortion or chromatic aberrations, with a sturdy metal mount.

Nano Surface Coating minimises reflection over the entire visual light range, resulting in sharp, clear images with very little ghost and flare. The use of the Ultra High Refractive index lens and glass mould aspherical elements helps the lens maintain superb uniformity edge to edge. Seven aperture blades form a circular opening for very pleasing out-of-focus areas in your images.

Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm

The Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 has a very robust build from high-quality plastics and a metal mount. This lens has become legendary in the micro four thirds range because of the beautiful images it makes and is up to now unsurpassed in its price range.

It’s difficult to believe that the small and portable micro-tour-thirds system can yield such excellent results, even in near darkness. This is especially true when combined with excellent prime lenses like the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4.

Autofocus with this lens on the Olympus Pen E-P5 is not the fastest, especially by todays standards, but as a portrait or street photography lens, it’s fast enough to capture some action and emotion in your subjects.

Review Conclusion

The very fast minimum 1.4 aperture ensures great shots even in low light and a creamy bokeh effect if desired.  The Leica stamp is synonymous with quality, and this prime lens does not disappoint.

If the 25mm (50mm FF) angle of view suits your photography style, the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 is the best you can get and is reasonably priced for a lens of this quality. You won’t be disappointed.
