Nikon D810 beats Sony A7r in DXO sensor tests

DXO just published their latest sensor test for the Nikon D810. It is now the best performing sensor measured by DXO, beating the earlier models D800, D800E as well as the Sony A7r, which shares the same 36MP sensor.

DXO only tests camera sensors’ performance, so this is by no means a full assessment, but it shows that Nikon’s extensive knowledge in designing cameras still makes them the go-to brand for no-compromise professionals.

      Hi K,
yes as I mentioned here, it is a sensor made by Sony. It is in fact the same sensor that Sony themselves use in the A7r. This slight advantage that the D810 sensor has in tests might have something to do with how both cameras process and compress RAW files. Remember that the D810 is also a vastly superior pro tool, with both contrast and phase detect, over double the number of AF points, optical viewfinder and almost quadrouple battery life. Disadvantages are of course the price and sheer size and weight of the camera.
